Gilbert P. reviews the Xperia Play by Sony Ericsson. This is the first "Playstation Certified" phone and includes everything you need, and the one thing you want. Often referred to as the Playstation phone, Gilbert P.'s latest phone - he actually owns this one - was designed for gaming and has plenty of Playstation 1 and exclusive games in its growing library of titles to play. That is in addition to the thousands of Android games already available.

  • Xperia Play should've came with the dual cpu and better gpu.

  • @SimonFanTV you're right, they should have gone dual-core; especially for gaming.

  • @SimonFanTV I'm actually glad they used a single core CPU and the adreno 205 GPU for better battery life - something often overlooked when looking only at specs. Most games don't even use the full power of current hardware, so by the time they do utilize dual core CPU's and max out GPU's I'm pretty sure the Xperia Play 2 will be ready to come out.

  • I have been liking my xperia play. Don't really need dual core on a phone. Single is still good enough. Good thing they did not include Bravia engine. Heard that its a battery killer.

And the phone start up takes forever. They got to fix that.

  • Excellent review good sir.

  • The keyboard I use doesn't deactivate Better keyboard Android market nice review got black one ,cheers brother :)

  • Funny hope he doesn't destroy the ribbon connecting the screen to the gamepad. By your repetitive open/closing so forcefully!

  • @daveloft unfortunately that is not the case with Android. Right now the OS is only somewhat, but not yet fully optimized for dual-core. There is information going around that 2.3.2 (which the Xperia Play ships with) has a bug that actually causes dual-cores to consume more power. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.

  • I'm still gonna get it.

  • @hairdewx This is something I hear all the time and it's complete bullshit.

First a Core 2 Duo is faster and uses less power than the Pentium 4 it replaced.

Second a faster chip can finish a task quicker and power down before the single core.

And lastly I will ask you to look at what's using the most power on your phone. For me it's the display, mediaserver, cell standby and then Wi-Fi.

  • @thecellularguru they are coming out with a dual core later this year also arc has beast/best camera

  • nice review; got one myself and have some thoughts as you
