More than 12 Billion rupees is set apart to develop urban areas in the Southern Province.
Many projects in the Hambantota, Galle and Matara Districts are being implemented. Urban development is carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Urban Development and Sacred Area Development.
More than Five Billion rupees will be spent on urban development activities in the Matara District. The Matara Hospital Complex, the Kotuwegoda Market Complex, the Dickwella Ayurveda Hospital, the Bus Stand and the Market Complex, the Hakmana Urban Development and the Akuressa Urban Development are in progress in the Matara District.
Development of Sellakataragama, the Tangalla Fisheries Resort, the Public Market, the Pradeshiya Sabha Building Complex, the Beliatta Urban Complex, the Hambantota Administratrive Complex and the International Conference Hall are in place. The expenditure will involve over Five Billion rupees.
Nearly three billion is set aside for urban development in the Galle District. The projects include the Expressway Project, the Beligaha Administrative Complex, the Dadalle Sports Complex, the Galle Bus Stand, the Karapitiya Complex Development Programme and the Galle Coast Conservation.
