Larry Gibson is the only permanent resident on Kayford Mountain, just 35 miles from the capital city of Charleston, West Virginia. For 19 years he has held on to his fifty acres -- that which remains of his ancestral home. What was once a living community is now an island of life surrounded by death. The filmmakers join Larry and a band of friends as they pass through "Hell's Gate" and -- in one breathtaking moment -- come upon the devastation. "This is what the end of the world looks like to me." Larry Gibson

  • Thanks for posting this video- the word needs to get out to as many people as possible. It is definitely worth the trip to go visit Larry and see this atrocity first hand.

  • wow... it's kind of confusing the things some humans do.... I'm sorry ...they went an done something I don't think I have enough duct tape to piece it back together.... but if i did... i would put every single stone back in it's proper place.... yea... some humans really do baffle me.. I might have enough duct tape to trestle up the morons that thought it was a good idea to blow the top off an entire mountain.... I'm not usually a vindictive soul..but you know. they kinda got it coming....

  • Living off your taxes eng? How stupid are you? He paid INTO these same taxes over the years of hard work he did! His family did NOT sell the land to them, they sold the mineral rights...which if you knew your history was a wool pulled over these people's eyes after the bad economy of the civil war. Arch and Massey stole the land right out from under them...LITERALLY.

  • When is the last time ou held a job Larry, I forgot you are drawing a check and living off my taxes. Looks like your getting around pretty good to me. Your family sold Massey and Arch the property so blame them and please get a job.
