Teacher Peggy Flores shows Dream pictures and X-ray art of Aboriginal culture and explains how dots are an important part of the paintings. She shows how to create three Dream Paintings and three X-ray Paintings using different media and simple supplies. The importance of the elements and principles of design in making Aboriginal Art is demonstrated. Student examples are also shown. Full video is 25 minutes.

  • wow my art teacher showed us this video in class.

  • Representing the aesthetics of an Indigenous art practice without the spiritual connection to place and land it represents, is appropriation at the least and cultural theft at its worst. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists in Australia, are connected to the images they make through their spiritual connection to the land. Using those images and teaching children to use them is completely inappropriate - instead teach them to find their own motifs and connection to place and why.
