I forgot to thank you for showing me this video. I don't like MAC's, but this was pretty cool none the less.

I have a few questions. once this is done and you turn the mac on, how will it recognize the new hard drive. And what if you put the original HD in the optical drive position and add a new SSD in the place of the hard drive. How do you configure the the SSD and the hard drive so that the OS is run off the SSD and not the hard drive. thanks

@techintraining01 Disk Utility will see both drives and you can format the SSD from there if you haven't done so before the installation. Then you can set the startup drive under system preferences > startup disk to either drive.

wasted a minute and a half on stupid video tricks from the 80's and forgot to remind to shut the damn thing down. Priorities.

@YoLninYo We mention that we have already powered down at 1:12.

I thought it was better to stick the original hard drive in place of the optical driving using a bracket. You would then use the SSD in place of where the old hard drive used to be. This is because data transfer rate is lower where the optical drive was. Sure some one that knows more can correct me?

@azizukman Depends on your specific model of 13" MacBook Pro. Under System Profiler > Hardware > Serial-ATA check the link speed on each port. If it lists 6 Gigabit then a 6Gb/s drive can be used, if it lists 3 Gigabit then a 3Gb/s SSD is what you'll want to install. Different models may have different link speeds. - This rule of thumb does not apply to the 15" and 17" models though! See the OWC Blog for details on those models specifically.
