Introduction to Linden Scripting Language (LSL), the programming language used within the virtual world of Second Life© (Second Life, SL, and inSL are trademarks of Linden Research, Inc. Fred Gandt and/or fredgandt.com is not affiliated with or sponsored by Linden Research.). Absolutely no previous experience with reading or writing any programming language is required. This tutorial (in however many parts it eventually is) is for absolute beginners and, will lead the pupil through from learning how to use the scripting UI (the actual tool we use to write/edit scripts) to them being totally proficient; fully able to design, write, test, develop and complete their own projects.

If you have a little experience with LSL and are looking to learn more (rather than having no idea about it at all) and want to skip ahead to later parts in the tutorial you may find that it will be difficult to follow since the series will not be in self contained 10 minute "lessons" but, rather will form a continuous lesson from part 1 to part (?). It would do you no harm to watch from part 1 (even if it seems too simple for you) and you never know, I may show you something you didn't already know.

  • GRRRR!!!! i had a huge stack of notes going. your tutorials are great. now i have an empty "list" type of information to identify out of the 7 lol...

  • @dressedosprey If you're referring to the lack of explanation about the list type; sorry. My PC is hopeless and I can't do recordings with a good enough quality to upload. If you need help with understanding something, try asking for help in the Builder's Brewery group (inworld). Basically lists can hold any other type of info except list type info, and are accessed by index (zero to length-minus-one). string value = llList2String(name, index); etc.

  • awwww, man, i was inhaling this videos, and taking notes (i know, i'm a dork), i've taken in so much in such little time, i thin i finally learned how to properly study and take notes, XD, bummer uur unable to finish or continue atm, :(, best of luck to you bud, and please hurry economy, D:

  • @Adrien13Sanctioned Thanks a lot. I'll either get these tutorials finished one day or die trying. The truth is that my cash flow is getting worse, not better. I'm not gonna give up though.

  • @FredGandt don't push urself, i love ur videos, but i don't want you going broke trying to help me, :o, and thanks, take care, and give em hell, >:D

  • @Adrien13Sanctioned Aww thanks Adrien. Don't worry, I won't be doing anything financially dumb. As an ex bankrupt, I know very well the pitfalls of over expenditure. Even without these tutorials to finish I would "need" to upgrade anyway. It's just a matter of "when" rather than "if". You're very thoughtful. Thank you.

  • @iRant4u Urgh bills. Don't remind me. If Key-uh or Fibby aren't really your deal you could try freelance. Check out elance.com Get a few languages under your belt and you can earn well doing little jobs here and there and still have time to develop your own stuff. The competition is strong there but the rewards can be high.

  • @FredGandt XDDDDD This guy came to my high school saying they work with key-uh I think with security and against terrorists and stuff :D not really what im into buy I think somethin like that MIGHT pay the bills xD

  • @iRant4u Mhmm. The career path bit is too true. Took me long enough to find one but I must say I rather like it. Maybe you could end up working for Key-uh code breaking or something ;-)

  • @FredGandt Haha that is kinda funny :) I pronounce a lot of things wrong that are like... I forget what they are called xD like CIA or FBI (obviously I know those) but with a new one, I might say it like it sounds (ex: "key-uh" for CIA) or I might actually say the letters themselves. Its not about how you say it thought its how you use it :P and I love programming and what im learning, its fun to me and its a career path haha
