The Red River of the North at Grand Forks, ND time lapse. Photos provided by the United States Geological Survey.

Video shows the rising of the Red River from March 21, 2009 through April 1, 2009 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The obelisk in the middle-ground shows peak water-surface elevation of five major Red River floods. See photo here: http://nd.water.usgs.gov/floodinfo/photos/obelisk20090314.jpg In the background is the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad bridge.

The camera faces south and is mounted on the Sorlie Bridge.

The river crested at 49.5 feet on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 before steadily dropping. The 2009 flood became the third-largest flood event in Grand Forks / East Grand Forks history.
