The Cuneo Centennial, a return trip from Waterloo to Yeovil Junction to mark Terence Cuneo's 100th birth year. First seen passing Vauxhall then arriving at Woking where I joined the train. At Winchfield the engine took water. On arrival at Salisbury the Duchess had to come off because of gauging problems at Sherborne. We were taken to Yeovil and back by a 57. At the Yeovil railway centre there was an exhibition of Cuneo paintings and I had the honour of meeting Carole Cuneo (his daughter). The train is then seen preparing to depart Salisbury on the return journey and powering away from Woking. Also on board was Alan Pegler, once owner of the Flying Scotsman. • What a tragedy they have done to her! this is how they should be seen--without streamlining--I have no doubt that if she had a chance at Mallards route she might even yet raise the speed record----without a failed inside big-end

  • And the royal train was kept at Wolverton works just up the road a bit - thats all gone now too - progress.....

  • the Very last Engine of any sort to leave the Bletchley Railway sevicing unit when it was closed down after 100 years of engine servicing. She pulled in for water on her way to London to pull a special. I managed to get onto the footplate for a good look around .

When she left the occasion was marked with Fog warning detonators on the line...quite sad really.

  • @whitewingsrich If I ever set up a G scale layout, the live steam Aster Duchess of Sutherland and the Ducthess of Hamilton will be running expresses on it. No diesels, just steam, except for no more than five diesels in the paint schemes i see as attractive. Give the people a chance to see that steam CAN outperform a diesel regardless of the extra work involved.

  • This is one class of locos that certainly holds the right name Coronation Princess. That loco is no less beautiful then a princess. I love that LMS Crimson colour as well. Its lovely

    Great Video

  • I just love the stanier locos they always look so strong and yet still beatiful

  • One of Stanier's Masterpieces ! I certainly do not like how so many English stations have been modernized, I mean defaced in recent years. It makes seeing the ones spared all that more enjoyable to the eye ! Nice video and thanks for sharing it.

  • @KateFan Aged 77 I still have Duchess of Sutherland courtesy of Hornby

and never tire of running her on my layout!!!

  • Damn what a beautiful loco. They sure don't make 'em like they used to.

  • I used to have model train of the Duchess of Sutherland as a child it was my favourite loco, so nice to see it for real.
