On Jan. 21, 2010, ten gem experts examined and photographed the Hope and Wittelsbach-Graff diamonds. One of those experts was Gary Roskin, gemologist, educator and author. On February 4, 2011, he gave attendees of the AGTA GemFair Tucson an up-close look at what it was to be in the Smithsonian "Blue Room," the outer room to the gems and minerals vault, as the experts attempted to find out whether these two storied blue diamonds came from the same source. In this short excerpt from the presentation, Roskin explains how these two diamonds end up the Smithsonian at the same time and the move to determine whether these diamonds were related. Roskin also discusses the experts chosen for this event, their qualifications, and their individual jobs as it relates to this experiment.
