This is the pat martino style lick played along the full length of the fingerboard. You can play this line over any diatonic chord in the key of G (Gmaj7, Am7, Bm7, Cmaj7, D7, Em7, F#m7b5)

You can also superimpose it over other chords such as F#7b9, Eb7Alt, Dbm7b5, etc.

Notation is at http://sheetsofsound.net/lessons_martino1.jpg

  • Thanks. Do I look sick? haha

  • nice dude, can you teach me the scale that you use........I want to learn to play jazz fusion, but it's so hard........

  • learn this lick and you'll be well on your way...

  • Hmm, a scalular run/exercise that sounds devoid of any soul. Sorry if I'm not more interested.

  • no need to apologize. A quick glance at your youtube site shows no clips of your band hellfish. Sorry if I'm not more interested in *THAT*. haha

  • Good Day !!

    1. Why you propose(offer) play in key G. Why not in key D ?

    2. E dorian is a key D. Why it over G ?

  • i'v learned this like 2 years ago from your superb book!! sheers jack!

  • Very good!!

  • The point of learning something like this is so you can incorporate it -- even just parts of it -- into your own repertoire. Naturally, you'd want to see it demonstrated very mechanically so you get the gist of the underlying concept. It never ceases to amaze me how guitarists seem to be the only instrumentalists that actively reject ideas that could help them play better, on the grounds of "soul." Let's hear you play something, maestro.
