@pianolasociety Thanks so much. My misconception has been collossal. I never heard this type of stuff played on a duo-art. I've been in a quandary as to whether to get rid of my 1933 duo-art but maybe I'll just try to get it playing as it is supposed to. No easy task is my guess.

@aardvaark069 Milne DID cut music like this for the DuoArt which generally played his stuff better than the Ampico. Milne was of course inherited from Aeolian NOT Ampico when the two companies merged reproducing roll production and instrument production after the '29 crash years. During this period all Milne "recordings" like this Dinner Music-series roll were issued on BOTH systems simultaneously with expression coding tailored for each system individually.

@2cords Wow! What a talent. the Ampico Milne arrangements seem FAR more sophisticated musically than the Duo-Art ones. I guess it was a question of what each coporation wanted to market.

You're welcome anytime good sir.

Hal: A nice piece of music. Just love the Ampico, such a nice little fellow. I am glad that it has a good home and is appreciated! I am enjoying it from afar! Probably about 2000 miles!
Thanks, John
I wonder why he never played in this style when he cut duo-art rolls.......maybe cuz duo-art couldn't play this type of stuff in a believable fashion?

@aardvaark069 Hi aardvaark069, it's my understanding that all Milne's rolls are arranged [not hand played] and he had the ability to just draw the music. He often used more than 2 hands [equivalent] and in my opinion, any roll by him is the best. Hal

How beautiful. Is that a medly or is that the song as a whole?

Thanks Christain, yes it's fom a medly roll -Dinner music #16. The pianist is actually Frank Milne [J.Lawrence was one of his many pseudonyms] and wrtten by Oscar Levant. Hal
