How to Find INTELECOM Video Clips within SoftChalk

If you're a SoftChalk customer, you can find INTELECOM Online Resources Network video content within the SoftChalk lesson authoring environment. In SoftChalk, from the "Tools" menu, click on "Media Search," and you will see a number of video clip Repositories that you can access. To add the INTELECOM Repository, click on the "Add/Remove" Repositories button. A second window appears, labeled "Repository Selection." On the right, you'll see the "Current Search List." On the left, there's a list of "Available Repositories." Click the box next to the INTELECOM icon. Then, just click the arrow keys to move the the INTELECOM Repository into the "Current Search List" window and click on "Okay." The window closes, and the INTELECOM Repository is now available in the "Select Repository" list within SoftChalk. Just click the box next to the INTELECOM icon. Keep in mind that content from the INTELECOM Online Resources Network is available on a subscription basis. When you click on the "Configure" button in SoftChalk, just enter your INTELECOM user name and password. This has already been done for purposes of this demonstration. So, let's say you need some video content for an online Earth Sciences class and you want to check out a clip about plate tectonics. Type "Plate Tectonics" in the "Keywords" window, and select "Search". A list of available clips will appear in the window on the right. After selecting the clip by highlighting it, click on "Details" to get some additional information. When you're finished, just click on "Close" to close the window. Click "Insert" at the bottom of the page and then "OK." Now click the "Close" button to close the Media Search window. At this point, you will see a widget placeholder where the clip has been inserted into the SoftChalk authoring page. Next, go to File and click "Save". You will then be able to preview your course in the same format as your students. Just go to Preview at the top of the authoring page and select "View in Browser".
What you see is exactly what the student will see in your Earth Sciences class. Click."Play" and the video begins. Another way to use media from the INTELECOM online repository in Softchalk is by utilizing the embed feature located on the INTELECOM website. From the INTELECOM Online Resources Network homepage, log into the Search Center by entering your user name and password. Type Plate Tectonics into the search field and click "Search". Then, select the plate tectonics clip you want. You will see a brief description of the clip at the bottom of the page. Click on "Embed" and a separate window will appear offering media in two different size video players. Select the video player that you prefer, and follow the directions to copy the code. Now, go back into the SoftChalk template. From the tool bar, select "Insert" and then "Widget." A separate window appears where you can name and describe the clip. In the "Widget Code" window, paste the embed code you copied from the INTELECOM site. Click "Paste Code" and then "OK." A widget placeholder will appear in the SoftChalk template. Then, just click "Save" and "Preview".
