The videos at the beginning of this video are shocking! They upset me a lot but I felt it important to show people. I missed all the little signs that Berry was not coping with what I was asking with her. I put what other people thought we should be doing before her and our relationship. In return I lost her trust, I lost my own confidence. The videos don't even cover how bad she got. I stopped videoing her because I couldn't even lead her from the field. She was a nervous wreck and I was terrified. People did tell me to shoot her before she killed someone, told me she would never be any good.
Berry came to me with a lot of problems, mentally. I just missed the signs and the months we had before all this were the calm before the storm. Her trying to cope and getting ready to explode. I see that now and realise the mistakes I made but without making them mistakes I would never have found the path that i'm on now.
I think deep down Berry never needed fixing. I needed fixing and Berry found me. Sounds silly to some people but I believe that. Until a couple of weeks ago I said if Berry died tomorrow I wouldn't cry, I wouldn't miss her. It sounds awful but I couldn't open up to loving her. After everything with Jimbo I just put this block up. The pain of almost loosing him was that great. This past couple of weeks I've really started to open my heart up. The thought of my life without this mare now is almost unbearable and we've only just begun our journey together. Who knows where we will be this time next year....

"You know, everybody thinks we found this broken-down horse and fixed him, but we didn't. He fixed us. Every one of us. And I guess in a way we kinda fixed each other too." - Seabuscuit (film)

  • @megmeggie16 You don't really need anything, as such. A long rope (12ft at the smallest) and perhaps a stick. (depends how big your horse is etc, You can use a schooling whip though!) The main thing you would need is the books, which aren't expensive. You can find them on the think like a pony website :) You don't need anything fancy to do TLAP. Which is what makes it so good. xx

  • @Jimbobaloopa

Oh right, i thought it was just for children, im nearly 19 you see,how much is everything for it? like all the bits i would need? :/

Thanks i might well do that! xx

  • @megmeggie16 Meg. You don't have to be a child :) I'm 21 and I study Think Like A Pony. I know lots of adults that study think like a pony too. Theres a facebook group that could connect you with people your age who study it and to start off, if you don't have many funds, you could just get the books and have a read to see what you think :) Feel free to inbox me for a chat more about it all, if you want too. xx

  • @LynnHenryTLAP

It is something i would be interested, however its the cost of everything for me, im on a very poor wage of £2.60 so i have hardly anything left over for just general running cost of fletch! :/

But i feel he needs more stability from me as an ex racehorse he needs someone to love and i think finaly he realised that im not going to get rid of him after a few months like in his racing, (ive had him just over 2 years)

But yes i would be interested but im not a child :/ x

  • This video is lovely and i know exactly how you feel! I had the exact same thing re-backing my welsh cob.. its difficult and theres so many times you just want to quit but you can see the bond and partnership you have after you've made it through! You look fab together :) xxx

  • WOW , This is beautiful such a amazing video. Well done for sticking by Berry, this video made me cry :') xxxxxx

  • @megmeggie16 Hi Meg! Think Like a Pony helps you to develop empathy, trust and mutual respect with your horse. Above all, it is very simple, jargon-free, safe and is a perfect bridge between natural horsemanship and traditional training. All the work on the ground and in the saddle adheres to the scales of training and develops each horse at their own pace. Does this sound like something you would like to do with your own horse?

  • Hi Steph. I knew from the first time that I met you at Horse of the Year Show that Think Like a Pony would help you on your journey. I know that you will make a wonderful instructor and it would be lovely to see you inspiring other people to Think Like a Pony. Love Lynn x
