I actually was not aware that the Kenny Rogers who's so famous as a country artist was the same one who did this song, although now I recognize the voice. Awesome song from a legendary singer.

For someone who is best known as one of the all-time greats in the Country music field, it may come as a shock to his younger fans that his first big hit was as a hard-rocking and psychedelic a song as any that was recorded in 1968!
As a little lad, I loved this song then and I love it now.
