MIDItar Hero is a program designed to let you use your Rock Band or Guitar Hero controller (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii) as a MIDI controller. You can use with an external MIDI interface and hook it up to a synthesizer, or you can use it with a program on your computer that accepts MIDI input (in this video, I'm using a software guitar in GarageBand). MIDItar Hero was created using Max/MSP.

  • lol this is boredom..

i congrats you on your awesome configuration that serves no purpose at all.

  • Got me an A for a final class project in audio programming and synthesis. And it's fun to play around with.

  • it looks like it would be kinda fun to play around with.... but to get an A in audio programming.... really? did u design the miditar hero software yourself?

If you use something like midiyoke, you can just assign any controller device to input a midi note of your choice.

i had a playstation 2 controller assigned to a drum kit (ez drummer) and 12 note piano (FL Keys)

If you didn't write this software then your basically not doing anything yourself at all.....

  • Umm... yes, I designed and programmed it myself using Max/MSP. What, you think I just took someone else's program and handed it in for credit?

Anyway, the program is much more versatile than using midiyoke or another similar method - it works on both Windows and OS X and with almost every GH and RB controller on 360/PS3/Wii. The interface is also easy to use, and in the normal guitar mode you can create custom scales of up to 32 notes.

  • I have a question.

Can you get laid from playing guitar hero?

  • Not sure where this question is coming from, but if you're implying that I have no life and spend all my time playing Guitar Hero, you're sorely mistaken.

  • what guitar controller are u using??

  • get a real guitar

  • @BrianSpud33 OWNED !

  • is there one 4 pc?

  • The real thing, from my point of view, would be exactly this but with an "re-root" or "auto-tune" feature as it is commonly called (I guess). Basically, no need to enter 4/3 notes chords for a single note : instead, when the (select?) button would be pressed, the base tone, that of the yellow button, is changed to whatever note was played last. It may be hard to remember on what scale you're playing and to figure out how to reach a certain other, but better than having to use chords for ntoes..

  • @PottyWilson omg you're right its not like it could be a legitimate emoticon or anything O.o

fuck i must be a gay stripper

  • @powerhodges91 just a heads up man...don't type "0.o". Gay strippers use it as their signature...im sure it was accidental so i wanted to prevent you further harassment

  • @tehbackmaskr Dude, dont be like that. Do you make music? YOu should, youd realize something. Doing stuff like this is fun as hell. I hooked up like like two gamepads, made their buttons play notes and their controllers, like the sticks, send xy commands or whatever. It was basically a keyboard made out of gamepads, with real time parameter control. Made a dubstep wobble bass line with em just for the heck of it.

  • dude this is tight.

    0.o

  • 1:25 and on is pretty sick
