Demon Tour 2010 - Radauti (Radóc)

The mention of "Radomir's village" in a 1392 document is generally believed to be the town's first mention, and indication of the origin of the name Rădăuți. The oldest mention of Rădăuți as such dates from 1413, in a document issued by Prince Alexandru cel Bun. By the middle of the 14th century, Rădăuți was already a flourishing settlement, the seat of a prominent Eastern Orthodox church during the times of Bogdan I (1359-1365), and subsequently a bishopric. Around the St. Nicholas church, archaeologists have uncovered a habitation layer preceding Bogdan's period of rule, one which could point to the existence of a local center prior to the formation of the Moldavian state. Awarded the privilege of organizing fairs, Rădăuți evolved due to its favorable location midway between the Carpathians and the tableland area. The fairs at Rădăuți have been dated to the time of Stephen the Great. Rădăuți was one of the larger cities of the Duchy of Bukovina during the period of Habsburg administration (1777-1918). During that time it saw a high level of German (especially Swabian) immigration.

Radóc romániai város az egykori Bukovina déli részén, hozzávetőleg 25 kilométerre délnyugatra a szeretvásári (Siret) határátkelőhelytől, és 37 kilométerre a megyeszékhelytől, Szucsávától. Az Északkeleti-Kárpátoktól keletre fekszik. Jelenleg az észak-romániai Suceava megyébe tartozik. A település nevének eredetére két elképzelés is létezik. Az egyik szerint egy 1392-ben kelt dokumentumban Radomir bojár falvának említése a jelenlegi Radócot jelenti, tehát a név jelentése e szerint Radomir falva lenne. A másik verzió szerint a név sokkal régebbi eredetű, és a latin Rottacenum szláv átalakításából származik. Mindenesetre a település első írásos megemlítésére Radóc néven 1412-ben került sor egy dokumentumban. Radóc a 14. század közepén már egy virágzó település volt itt, ezért I. Bogdán, az Államalapító (1359-1365) elhatározta, hogy itt építi fel az ország legkitűnőbb templomát, amely a keleti ortodox püspökség székhelye lesz. Ez a legrégebbi kőből épült templom egész Bukovinában, a közelében állították fel I. Bogdán moldvai fejedelem fehér lovasszobrát. A Szent Miklós templom körül a régészek felfedeztek egy Bogdán korát megelőző kultúrréteget is, ami az államalapítást megelőző központ meglétét támasztja alá. A Nagy István moldvai fejedelem által Radócnak adományozott vásártartási jog nagymértékben elősegítette a város fejlődését. A középkorban nagyszámú zsidó népesség menekült a városba a zsidóüldözések elől, és egészen a második világháború végéig jelentős tényezői voltak Radóc mindennapjainak.
A Habsburg időszakban Bukovina egyik legjelentősebb városának számított, ekkor nagyszámú német ajkú telepes érkezett a településre.
Az első világháborút lezáró békeszerződés Bukovina déli részét Radóccal együtt Romániához csatolta.

Our holiday included Romania as well, so there is no reason why I shouldn't show these cities too.

I enjoyed my stay and nobody ruined anything this time.

I have found people from There with my family name. Also there was no important people with my name but just a saxon from Radauti and that came as a surprise.

Why it was important for me this name?! Because it's very rare, probably it could hardly be 100 people with this name in Romania.

But this name is adopted, because I must hide my identity in Romania, the identity of a God, Zjameluks.
