Elite cycling coach Chris Carmichael talks to Daniel Gillespie, SRM Team Liaison, about one of the most important and influential innovations in the history of cycling: the power meter, a device invented by SRM founder Uli Schoberer in the early 1990s. Since then, the SRM power meter has become the gold standard for cyclists on the pro circuit. How does a power meter work? It measures how hard you pedal, and how fast you pedal to calculate your power output and become a more efficient cyclist. Power meters keep getting better, too; they can now capture a tremendous amount of data, and battery life has been greatly extended.
