Fantaisie-Improvisation on "Ave Maris Stella", recorded in 1981 by Philippe Lefebvre. Please excuse the ticks & pops. You youngsters probably don't know what a plague these little nicks were to LP-owners back in the day. But it was almost impossible to keep our black vinyl records in pristine condition. We tried to handle them as delicately as possible, but these little imperfections invariably appeared. By cracky, you whippersnappers don't know how good you have it ;-)

  • Wonderful music and an organ you will not hear anymore. It is about to be thrown in the melting pot (sadly).

  • @Adrian. First I'd heard about this. Any info. on what they're doing for a replacement?

  • Any chance you've got a recording of the Tournemire improv on Victimae Paschali Laudes? Perhaps you're saving it for Easter? ;-)

  • Strange that you should mention this.I just put the video together a couple of days ago, & have tried to upload it 2 or 3 times. But it's long-ish,as you know,& my cable hook-up(Comcast)takes forever to upload.Invariably, there's a breakdown some time during the transmission.Very frustrating.I'll try again soon. But I'm not going to wait until Easter; I'm not really concerned with being liturgically correct ;-)

  • Again, fantastic views of this Cathedral! Thanks!

  • A lot of these pictures I've downloaded from Die Orgelseite. I know I give Martin Doering credit in my notes, but I need to emphasize: if you haven't taken a gander at that web site, please do so. He has taken some of the moste breathtaking photos of organs (& their venues) that I have ever seen ANYWHERE.

  • Tournemire is a forgotten genius. In case anyone is interested, there will be a two day conference on Tournemire's L'Orgue Mystique in Miami the first weekend in February 2012. Check the MusicaSacra website for details.

  • Thats the beautifullest i've ever heared..............

  • @organum74

  • Yes another new style baroque organ, or given its other unfortunate title 'neo baroque organ' (you never hear the expression 'neo romantic') bites the dust. These instruments should be preserved as iconic of their own time not got rid of. Many baroque organs were made into romantic organs. Here as far as I know it is being completely replaced. When and by who I don't know, but with French politics this could take an age.

  • What a ravishing recording. Thank you so much for uploading.
