You are close to the fact about the gitan language except that their gitan tongue is not Calo, in that case you should call it Calé, but then again they don't even speak Calé. You are also right by saying that "Nicolas says that they speak a combination of the language from the North-east " that in fact is Catalan, so mixed with French is what they call Gitan, a language born among them and only understood within them selves.
