HARAPAN means HOPE in Bahasa Indonesia and hope we are going to give this 13 year old female orangutan who is now chained at a tree in a private garden in Sintang, West-Kalimantan.
Deni, a local Dayak, is now visiting her every day to feed her properly. The owner now agrees that HARAPAN will come in the care of father Jacques who has the permits to run a rescue centre. The whole city is now talking about animals and word is spread very fast. So now we have the information that 14 more orangutans are in the care of private persons in the surrounding area. Willie Smits and Richard from Orangutan Outreach will visit Sintang next week and they will have a meeting with the new Bupati and the city council and also with people from forestry department and forestry police. The new Buapati is a friend of father Jacques so now we have hope that it will work out very positive and we will be able to rescue all orangutans (but first HARAPAN).
At the end we discovered around 70 orangutans in this area. From the 15th of November we will rescue more.
