Dutch trio Trace fronted by virtuoso keyboardist Rick van der Linden performs on what seems to be German TV on 22 May 1977. As there's currently only one live video of this sparkling tangle of fantastic musicianship, I thought it would be a good idea to add another drop of greatness on youtube. This song is the last one from their 1975 album Birds and the most lengthy one as well, it lasts for more than twenty minutes, so what you got here is a part of performance.

This video is an outtake from "Ekseptional Trace" DVD, so if you liked that clip, you might as well purchase that disk.

  • So they're a trio with a drummer, guitarist/bassist, and keyboardist? Does the guitarist/bassist also sing? They guys have amazing talent. Love this song.

  • @Ryu12543

You're right, but this the only song, where bassist plays guitar and sings. They are almost exclusively instrumental band.

  • wow why is the uppermost synth tuned backwards?

  • @Kredeidi

Probably because it's a reflection in the large mirror installed over Rick's head.

  • I think this video is from 1975/76. Ian Mosley didn´t play anymore with Trace. He wasn´t the drummer in White Ladies (1977). After this record the band splitted up.

  • @revistaladosis

I'm pretty sure that the video is from '78, because they also did some songs from White Ladies as well. Also this date is mentioned on DVD cover.

  • It looks like it's from a Dutch show, considering the sign "Muziek winkel".

  • Incredible. I don't recall how I heard about Trace but as a Focus fan I'm glad to have more insight into what must have been happening in Amsterdam prog. It musta been heady times for those bands. Thanks for posting this.

  • @MrHistorian123

Emerson made more errors than Rick because Emerson was working a helluva lot harder than Rick.

  • I've watched this like nine times today. The drum fill at 7:07 gets me every time.
