*Nikki's POV*
Sophie and I migrated to my room. We passed the time dressing in the stupidest things in my closet we could find. Sophie ran out of my bathroom with a crimped ponytail, bright green bendaroos twisted in, bright red leggings and a purple maternity dress we snatched from Cheyenne's closet.
"Oh, how sexy does this look?" she joked, flipping her hair and swaying her hips. I threw her a pillow, and she folded it up and stuck it up her dress. I saw she had done her face like a clown.
"Oh, I'm am speechless, babe!" I cried, and threw myself on my bed.
She flopped next to me. "Can you play your iPod?" she pleaded, closing her eyes. I plugged it in, and 'Stuck Like Glue' played automatically.
-There you go making my heart beat again, heart beat again, heart beat again,
there you go making me feel like a kid,
won't you do it, do it, one time!-
Sophie slid through each note with ease and grace. I warbled through every verse. Then we change the lyrics.
-Wa-oh, wa-oh, smells like poo, you and him sucka you smell like poo-
We did this until we collapsed in giggles.
"What are we watchin tonight?" she gasped, trying to get her breath back.
"After Monopoly, I thought we could drive out and rent Killers or The Back-Up Plan," I replied, still giggling. Sophie stopped abruptly.
"OHMIGOSH! Killers, definitely. Ashton Kutcher anything!" she babbled seriously.
I laughed. "Aren't you dating somebody?" I asked her again. Sophie shut her mouth quickly.
"Oh, Brian...no, he..cheated." Her eyes glistened with tears, and then her face switched to rage.
"Can we just hang up here tonight?" Sophie asked sadly. I nodded.
"Course, Soph," I whispered, and patted her head.
"Have you heard from Chris?" she asked.
I blanched.
Chris Harris was my and Sophies' best friend. I knew him longer than Soph, actually. I remember when we were five:
-Flashback-
Chris smiled at me, a top tooth missing. His shaggy blond hair dangled in his big blue eyes. I smiled back, my ponytail dangling down my back.
"You're my best friend in the whole world, Nikki," he whispered.
"No, you're MY best friend in the whole world, Chris," I countered, laughing. He took my hand and we walked across his old country home porch.
"I wuv you, Nikki."
"I wuv you, Chris."
He pressed his nose to mine, and, smart little five year-old I was, I stole a kiss from his cheek. I darted down the porch steps and raced across the lawn.
"Catch me if you can!" I squealed. But Chris played pee-wee baseball. He caught me in a matter of seconds, his arms catching me from behind, and wrapping around my waist.
"Got you!" he cried triumphantly. And he stole a kiss from my lips.
-End of Flashback-
I snapped back from my memory. "No," I whispered deadly. Soph hugged me.
"I know you miss him, sweetie, but...I doubt he's coming back. I believe it's time to move on," she mumbled.
Chris moved when we were twelve, almost five years ago. I remembered our good-bye.
-Flashback-
I swallowed the lump in my throat and fought tears. Chris looked sadly at me. I ran to him and eveloped him in a hug.
"I will never, ever forget you," I whispered. I felt his cheek in my hair.
"I love you, Nikki," he murmured. Now the tears came. They poured down my face. I took small, gasping sobs. He held me tighter.
"I love you too, Chris," I replied almost silently. He cupped my chin and lifted it up, so I could smile at him. But he kissed my lips. The feeling in it was so much more than seven years previously. I felt the lips move to mine. I embraced him tighter and kissed back. Then he broke away.
"Good-bye Nikki," he whispered. I squeezed him around the middle.
"No, please don't let this be good-bye," I sobbed. He kissed my scalp.
"For now, Nik," he whispered. "For now."
-End of Flashback-
"O-oh, Soph, I-I can't let th-this go!" I sobbed mercilessly. I missed Chris so much.
He texts me, but not often. In fact, he rarely picks up his phone.
Me-hey chris
chris-hey gotta go
me-WHA? we havent even started talking!
chris-sorry, nik. bye
I cried for a long time, before I heard my phone going off. It was a special ringtone: the song impossible.
"Oh my god! Chris!" I shrieked, yelling into the phone. I heard him laugh.
"Hey Nikki. How's it going?" he asked, his warm voice carrying over. I almost cry again, this time in happiness. I haven't heard his voice in almost five years. His voice was so deep now, with a rasp.
"Oh my gosh, I've missed you so much!" I whisper. I hear a girl's voice in the background.
"Chris, are you coming?" she called. I knew that voice. His little sister,Taylor.
"Chris, Chris Chris!" she screeched.
"SHUT-UP!" he roared.
I was so elated to hear his voice. "Oh Chris..." I murmured. "I missed you so much."
"I know, you've told me several times. But you don't have to miss me for long. My mom and dad are getting a divorce, and dad is keeping me over back at the old house. So I'll see you every other week." I'm officially floating on air.
