This hymn has long been embraced by serving and veteran members of the armed forces. With it's comforting words and soulful tune, it is especially sung at Remembrance and funerals. This video focuses on the generations of servicemen & women and their families who have endured the pain, suffering & horror of war and the loss of comrades and those so dear. It is movingly sung by a Welsh Male Voice Choir. Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out lifes little day; Earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me. I need Thy presence every passing hour. What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven's morning breaks, and earths vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

  • Moved, deeply.

Incredible video my favourite on youtube I've yet seen.

  • Thank you very much JohnnyH. Very kind of you. I've had some buffering problems where the picture and sound can be a little out of synch. I think that it has to be played through first to permit everything to load. All good cheer!

  • a thoughtful moment, thank you

  • Long may the North Alantic Alliance endure, a source of certainty in an uncertain world

  • Download the audio from this track at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • Always touches my heart-I beleive it is the most beautiful hymn and I think the words are true. Written by a man dying of TB in 1800s. Sad.

  • Beautifully done. Touching, sad, and angering.

  • Lest We Forget.

  • I am an atheist, still I find it so moving and comforting. It brings tears to my eyes. This was one of Gandhi's favourite hymns, and the miltary band plays it every Jan in New Delhi at the Beating Retreat ceremnony.

  • powerful -speechless
