A New Orleans styled jazz band from Glasgow, Scotland - a Russian classical composer, Serge Prokofiev - and the UK Top 30 singles charts - would appear to be strange bedfellows. However during August and September 1962, the Clyde Valley Stompers climbed to a high of No.25 with their Parlophone recording of the main theme from 'Peter and the Wolf'. Here from that year is a television performance of their hit record to enjoy once again.

  • thankyou for posting this video, the drummer Robbie Winter is my dad. he passed away 3 years ago but he would have been so pleased to see it....xx

  • @bigsistersesi - Oh I'm so glad you found my video clip, so you can see your Dad at work with the group. It's sad that he died before he had the chance to see it himself.

Hi Cousin.:-) Just came accross this vid clip when searching on "Peter and The Wolf"

Imagine my surprise to see Uncle Robin with his name emblazoned accross the bass drum. My dad was his big brother Bill who sadly passed away almost 2 years ago

I remember often listning to a copy of the record that robin had given to us when I was a kid but was too young ever to have actually seen the band, till now.

  • Brilliant footage, many thanks for posting. The Scottish Screen Archive have the Grampian TV film from 1982 about the Stompers' reunion. I've just watched it - it's great!

  • Brilliant stuff !!!

  • Hi Kester1940, my dad John McGuff is the trombonist, front right. Thanks very much for posting this; he died in 2005 and was jazzing until just before he passed.

  • I associate this with a school coach trip to Coventry Cathedral when i was at grammar school. Not sure why; maybe they played it on the coach. Anyway, i was smitten and bought my own copy soon after. Great stuff. Thank God for YouTube's nostalgia corner!

  • my grandad was called 'norrie brown' not quite sure whether he had left the band at this time.

  • my grandad played the banjo for these :) well proud :D

  • met a lovely wee lady on the east kilbride train today , she kept meentertained the whole journey with hertales of her husband and his time with the band , had to look them up , im glad i did , was lovely meeting you emily , love to youand yours x

  • I am really sorry to hear that Robbie died, he was such a nice guy and I worked with him in the "Clydes" for a while. My condolences.
