A better method would be, dig a hole in the ground, small tin on bottom, fill it with a cup of water, place a boil in the bag rat pack inside, large tin on the top, one and a half hexi blocks, depending on how hot or cold it is that day? Turn the bag when there's half the hexi left, let it boil til the hexi burns out, take the bag out, use what water you need for a hot drink, eat your meal and any water left over, let it cool then pour it back in your canteen, Simples ;-)

I always use leather palmed work gloves as can hold a mess tin underneath as I eat from it and it won't set on fire as easily as thinsulate gloves.
The top piece you put on the hexy stove is only for cooking with the crusader cup or other metal cups, not for mess tins as it limits the flame on the mess tin surface and only part of the mess tin is heated so takes much longer to boil water.
When you turn mess tin over you would have seen the pattern of the cup holder in soot on the bottom, wh

@Survivalproduction Don`t use these inside, the gas and fumes of them in toxic, and should`nt be inhaled, or used inside aha, just don`t use em inside, infact get a JETBOIL, there a mint bit of kit.

Thanks for the video, a good tip to put the small mess tin on top, I tried it and it works great.
which is the only part of the mess tin that got heated.
You can also use esbit fuel tablets or the new ethanol fuel gel packets called greenheat as this is non toxic to eat or if mixed with food by accident and has a blue flame and is used in the bcb crusader cooker/crusader cup cooking system and comes in a box of 12 packets and you squeeze out the gel onto a sheet of cooking foil folded double placed on the cooker so avoiding the gel falling down the holes.

@adrn25m um only the smaller mess tin gets heated and ive seen esbit but there alot harder to light and the other thing is it boils realy quick because no heat escapes.
