A longer version of the War of the Worlds teaser. This is for a victorian version faithful to the book. These are test shots to see if certain shots are feaseable. They are only work in progress and as such only indicative of the final work. It will be interesting to see what people think.
Ive decided to add notes to avoid confusion as to what is depicted. The first shots are of The Journalist heading home to Woking as the second Cylinder approaches Earth. As dusk falls the cylinder lands close by and the Journalist notices the fires of Woking in the distance.
The second scene is of the Steamer heading out to sea as the Thunderchild stands its ground about to attack the advancing Tripod war machines.( this is a test to see if the computer handles the poly count. Each tripod is 1,200,000 polys and the Thunderchild is 1.4 million alone and the Steamer has 250 people on board complete with bags and clothes) .The third sequence is where the Journalist sees Tripods meet for the first time with the fires of Shepperton in the distance.(this is a test of tracking and layers. The sky, trees, carriage and ground are all split into layers. Atmospherics can be added to this plus more Tripods). Next its Shepperton Church. The Tripod here is the First one to be knocked out by shellfire. Stunned, the Martian looses control and the Machine staggers into the tower and collapses. Lastly is a poly test of the dead martians in London, near primrose hill.(you can see the Cylinder embedded in Primrose Hill- right at 1.56. At the end is a close up of the heatray with its' iris "lens" and the red weed (procedurally created and animated). I hope that clears things up! Ta for reading. Steve

  • Thank you for atleast showing the head of our machines correctly.

  • @ServingMars I tried! Ive modified the machines since these tests were made and Im aware that some ideas do not work. It is very difficult to please everyone as I am now learning!

  • If you guys can achieve this on your own what couldnt you do with a major stuio behind you ? If you are not snapped up by a major soon they are all fools

  • @chitlika That is most kind. :)

  • Very interested in seeing how this turns out, although I think your HMS Thunderchild looks a little too much like a World War One vessel.

  • @BigDenny1020 It is difficult to create the ship Wells describes. This ship is loosely based upon a coastal defence ship built in Britain for Norway in the 1890s. It more than likely influenced the design of the Destroyer which followed it. Ive now changed the design to better reflect opinion. cheers!

  • @ServingMars :P

  • @SteveThinkTank Um.. He's not a human.. I'm his friend.. Rather, forced to be.

  • @messybluesboy371 There is a trade off between drama and possibility. The cylinder is 30 by 120 meters. The size of a 30 storey steel building. It is travelling at 1300kph in this clip. That would create a 450m crater, 95m deep with a 70mph blast wave. Meteor crater in Arizona was formed by a 50m iron ball travelling about 20 times faster and created a 10 megaton explosion. We need the Martians to survive. I personally dont think Wells worked it out! Any mathematicians want to comment?

  • I'm sorry, but I'm a bit put off already; when the cylinder came flying in for landing, I think it would've travelled a BIT faster than that!

  • Stunning!! Wells' nightmare done perfectly!!
