Sonic Changes Color in Sonic 2 (NOT Super Sonic)

I honestly can't believe how popular this vid is... nearly 20000 views? And 110 comments? AND 33 favorites? WOO! (Updated 7/26/08)

An interesting little glitch in Sonic 2. This green and black hedgehog is sometimes known as "Ashura". Why he got that name, I'll never know.

This is how to do the glitch:
1. Enable Level Select and Debug Mode
2. Select Emerald Hill Zone 1 or 2
3. Press B to change into a ring, then hit A until you are a vertical column of 4 rings, then hit A once more. It will look like there is nothing there.
4. Press C to place the object (a waterfall) MANY MANY times. Confine your placing to within half a screen of where you started. Do this until the flashing word "Rings" has a blue outline.
5. Press B again to turn back into Sonic and get out of the waterfalls... it will take a little bit of effort, just hold right and keep jumping!
6. When you emerge, you will be green with a patch of black on the head!

Some interesting things:
You can view your progress on the color change by looking at your life counter.

If you get a continue, that mini-Sonic will be green and black too!

Some enemies and other colors will be screwed up, but the game still plays normally.

i once got yellow sonic ( not super he was at normal speed and spikes down). i got semi-super sonic!

@OverruledDood Why yes, I still do have my Genesis, and Sonic 2.

I was never one to use cheats with my Genesis games, but I did use Debug mode on Sonic CD. Ah, good times.

@loanstar744 um, you can activate debug mode via sound test codes. if you still have youre genesis, you should try it out :D

D:< God damn, people this is a color glitch, not some stupid fan character, get over it. You know how fucking stupid it is seeing people get pissed off over this video because they think it's a sprite hack?

It makes you seem very childish when someone comes in and says things like; "OMG ASHURA THE HEDGEHOG!" or "OMG MY TOTALLY ORIGINAL FAN CHARACTER!".

Because it causes people to flame the video and comments.
