I work for an agency that serves people with intensely challenging behavior. Several had multiple "placement failures." ALL of them have showed behavioral improvement without use of ANY aversive treatments. Many have been weaned off medications they were on for years. (We don't medicate for convenience.) We believe all behavior is communication. We figure out WHAT the person is trying to communicate, meet their needs, then work on teaching them more appropriate & effective ways to communicate.

@chericecardwell You are an idiot. Many children are getting shocked for doing things which ARE NOT wrong, or are only mildy wrong (swearing, not covering mouth to cough, etc).

Besides, how would an aversive help a child who's banging his head against a wall- should't the pain from banging be aversive? Obviously, it would't work.

@JacobP81 That's how I channel my anger. I wish I could stop but I can't. All my exes left me for being angry against institutional abuse I have no friends...but I do get a smile on my face whenever a cop gets killed, or better yet a patient killing someone in a lockdown unit YES!!! Love it.

I hate this hate, btw. It is a curse and it is eating at me from the inside, has been for years. If this crap can end so can my hate. Maybe there's a reward for me somewhere else.
