It really bums me out that he died in 1967 (the year I was born), so I'll never know what it was like to be in the room with these guys when they were creating in real time. I'm glad I heard Brecker several times and met him once now that he's also gone. To the shredder...of the guys you mentioned, Allan Holdsworth comes closest to this.

Thought I'd seen all documented video. Then this! What a great find.

When the innovators play nothing comes close to the source than they do. Pops, Duke, Bird, Trane, Monk, Diz, Bud, Roy, Miles, Wayne, Herbie, Tony, Jack, Zawinul, McCoy all signify this.

The greatest musician of all time in my opinion. I'm a guitar shredder and listen to Buckethead, Vai, Petrucci, Holdsworth, but none of them are on Coltrane's level.

@claryscat no gravity at that point the sweetest softest song in the world......its unexplainable but u get where im going..........they make u forget its Naima

I happened to listen to both sides of Ascension today, and did my own little bit of free jazz improvisation over it. I sat down and wanted to watch a Coltrane video, and what theme comes in but the very one I was trying to Ascend with!

Thanks, friend!

Blues Waltz? That's the Ascension theme after Naima.

This brings tears to my eyes. What can I say? Trane was a master! About the five minute mark he is channeling from the source! A love supreme no doubt!
