That appears (to me) to be James Warren driving the Warren-Coburn-Miller car that Big Daddy defeated in this final. The Ridge Route Terror was one of the strongest cars to ever campaign out of the west coast ~ I know ~ I lived @ SoCal strips from 1964 until drafted in 1969. Sadly, James Warren just passed away a few days ago. Drag racing, in the 60's, was the best although front-engine cars were always trouble waiting to happen. Today's drag racing is dominated by big money multi-car teams.
@jankins350 Don Garlits is considered to be the best ever by virtue that he literally did it all. There was "Don The Chassis Builder", "Don The Engine Builder", "Don The Tuner", and "Don The Driver". I too, went to The Museum in Ocala while I was vacationing in Orlando. I marveled at Don's favorite car SR-1, wept while standing in front of SR-13. My girfriend didn't know why until I told her about "The Accident"(I was at Lion's 3-8-70), was wowed at SR-14, I was like a kid in candy store.
Drag racing isn't the same as it used to be! You dont see the crowds get that excited for anything other than the people with the free T-shirt cannon.
spin those mickey thompsons on clorax to make 'em sticky for better traction...yep the good ole days !!
