@moroney1 And since when good music relies on vocal range? As far as I'm concerned, Madonna has been delivering excellent and, in various moments, groundbreaking ahead-of-its-time music. Music she wrote and produced. The fact that she "can't sing" as you insist in saying hasnt affected the musical quality of her body work. Not saying anything negative about Cyndi, the work and success of one, doesnt affect the other, but let me point out that Madonna is behind her music much more than Cyndi.

I think the major seperation between the two is that Madonna writes good pop songs consistently but is rather cold when singing whil CyndiLauper performs mostly other peoples music but is much more emotive while singing, and for tht reason i ould prefer her

lol, you talk about reality shows. Cindy Lauper appears on shitty reality shows like The Celebrity Apprentice, or that trash of VH1 Divas or mtv Made. She needs to release different versions of her 80s hits every year. No new music by Lauper

She is a total sell out.

@Califacience The things you mentioned: "vocal delivery, pitch and other qualities" ALL depend on one's (natural) vocal range limitations. One's vocal range is a natural ability that can be trained and improved but only to a certain point - it all comes down to the vocal limitations one's born with. Last time I checked, Madonna is perfectly competent when it comes to her vocal delivery within her range limitations. Just like Lauper is competent in delivering according to her own limitations.

You look at the credits on a Prince song and you see his name, period.

Prince was a brilliant singer song writer, Cyndi lauper was a talented vocalist, and Madonna is basically the ancestor of the modern reality-star who acquires fame through controversy rather than talent and substance.

it is a common hype practice used in music, Madonna was on the cutting edge of it.

All you have to do is add a few lines to a song and you can put your name on the credits as ONE of the writers, and no body in the general public has any clue what it actually means. If you want a real 80's song writer don't look at either one, look at Prince.

No, that rationale assumes that vocal range is the only element of vocal delivery, which is ignorant of music. There is also pitch, tone, and other qualities. But I think we need not mention that Madonna is pretty much incompetent when it comes to all of them.
