A box and whisker chart can give you a snapshot of each series in your data. What are the highest and lowest numbers? What was the median number? What was the range of numbers on either side of the median?
In this example, I create a box and whisker chart from airport security checkpoint wait time data. It shows which checkpoint has the longest wait times, and which is fastest.

To make the job of creating a box plot faster, you can use the box and whisker chart utility. Click the link to my blog article, and read the details about Jon Peltier's box plot utility.

  • sorry if this is a stupid question... but why are the min and max's on the bottom different? like the first min is 4.0 and the second min is 3.5, same as for max

  • @MsBammerz The first Min and Max are the actual values, and the second set of Min and Max are the length of the whiskers, that show the Min and Max.

If you click the link in the description, you'll see my blog article about this box and whisker chart. In that article, the second screen shot shows the formulas for those Min and Max calculations.

  • Thanks so much... my teacher is useless. This help me finish my assessment thanks a lot

  • @Recog666 Thanks, glad it helped with your school work.

  • Hello, I think if you dont know nobody does, so, is there a way to create a macro to set up the macro security level to "down" automatically, because threre are many users dont know how to do it, thank you very much

  • @ducksaj No, you can't changed the user's macro settings by running a macro.

You could add an instruction sheet at the front of the workbook, and explain how to enable macros in the Excel file. Proficient users could ignore that sheet, and those who need help could follow your written instructions to enable macros.
