FDA has approved a new formulation of the controlled-release drug OxyContin that is designed to be more difficult to manipulate by someone trying to misuse or abuse the medication. OxyContin tablets contain the opioid analgesic oxycodone, which is released gradually after the tablet is swallowed. People intent on abusing the drug have been able to release more of the medication all at once by crushing or chewing the tablets, or by dissolving them and injecting the liquid.

The new formulation makes it more difficult for people to defeat the controlled-release properties of the drug by cutting or crushing the tablets. And if someone tries to dissolve the tablets, the result will be a gummy substance that would be difficult to inject through a syringe. Although the new formulation may not prevent all abuse of OxyContin, it is a step in the right direction. The manufacturer will conduct a study to evaluate how well the new formulation reduces abuse and misuse of the drug.

  • addicts love challenges, this could possibly only make it more interesting for them. The longer the ritual the more addictive, and they will find a way to make it work.

  • Legal drug dealers.

  • Fuck op's, shoot dope or roxi's :)

  • @kinkslola I absolutely agree that jailing people who have a horrible addiction is not the answer and I really hope that the med staffs in the jails take more care and hv more empathy regarding the withdrawl an addict will go through and give them the proper meds to stop the withdrawls. I've witnessed it by a loved one and it made me cry! Nobody wants to be an addict and then punished. This is AMEERICA? Well let's treat people w/some care and respect. Give them a chance to get and stay clean

  • So u wont feel it if u snort it

  • Thrre is always herion wat happen to the war on drugs

  • i tried somethng simple like 30 mins ago,i do this to all pills i consume.just put in water and rub until the color comes off and see white (thats what i did,the red came off but was still gelly)or until the pill starts to feel rough...(bcareful the gel is very slippery so u could lose it down the drain...(the reason i do this is to take off as much of the "time release"ingredient as possible....30 mins later IM FEELING A BUZZZ..lets see what happens...good luck

  • @geneofthelamp Hi, I guess my reactions are kind of tough. When I was reading most of the posts, most of the responders had only one thing in mind, and that was a way to get high and stay high or higher by illegally using a prescription medication. If these abusers continue they are leading their lives towards an early death. I have my doubts that jail time would stop their abuse for good. The drug already ruined their lives, it is going to be difficult for them to care for themselves once out.

  • @chadnessify fuck haystack

  • @kinkslola everyone dies sometime a better statement would have been soon you will land in jail, seeing as its a crime to possess oxys or any prescription medication w/o a verified prescription from a certified physician or physiologist or any doctor for that matter...

  • @twillis721 thats why you switch to an e-cig and eventually quit, fuck the pharmies
