The Dave Brubeck Quartet in concert at the Univerity of Rome in 1959. In a nice standard called " These foolish Things" there is some wonderful creative alto playing by Paul Desmond. After the pianosolo there is some very interesting solo work by bassist Eugene Wright.
Dave Brubeck born in 1920 is one of the most well-known jazz pianists of all time. The classic Dave Brubeck Quartet featuring Paul Desmond's liquid alto saxophone lasted for 17 years, during which time they produced the first ever million-selling jazz tune (Take Five), toured the world many times, and introduced enormous numbers of people to the jazz sound.
The two other members of the quartet were Eugene Wright on bass and Joe Morello on drums.

  • Always on my mind, my Keyboard too, that is .....5/4 Time where you find it.

  • In my teens I used to see many jazz idols in clubs in L.A. Dave Brubeck has always been number one. And then there was everyone else. I am grateful you put this on here. I still listen to his music even what he has been playing in his 80's. This piece is among his greatest works.

  • dave brubeck is one of a kind ...

  • Yeah - Awesome Bass solo ;-)

  • rare beautiful performance, I used to sing all the double bass solo everytime

  • This has got to be one of the best solos ever. Paul was special. I had some of the very early Brubeck recordings. Thanks for posting this excellent work.
