FACE THE NATION :: 1/7 :: Diversity Not Hindi That Unites India

A day after Samajwadi Party( http://connect.in.com/samajwadi-party/profile-246869.html ), MLA Abu Azmi was slapped by MNS members in the Maharashtra Assembly for taking the oath in Hindi, his Mumbai store was stoned by the Shiv Sena( http://connect.in.com/shiv-sena/profile-254173.html ). Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar( http://connect.in.com/nitish-kumar/profile-1061.html ) says parties like the MNS should be banned.

Anti-Hindi sentiments have had a long history in India and regional language activists opposed to Hindi exist in almost every Indian state. But the preeminence of Hindi is being challenged whereas English is seen as aspirational.

And that brings us to the question of the day that was asked on CNN-IBN show: Is Hindi acceptable to all Indians as the national language?

On the panel of experts to debate the issue were DMK MP MK Kanimozhi, MP and SP leader Virendra Bhatia, actor Darshan V Jariwalla and CNN-IBN Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai( http://connect.in.com/rajdeep-sardesai/profile-227465.html ).......

We the people from Tamil nadu severely oppose Hindi. We are the pioneers in saving our language from the Hindi Giant (Hindi Arakkan) and we support the Marathi peoples right to safeguard their Language from Hindi chauvinist. I like to learn as many as indian languages including Marathi but not this Hindi.

Diversity nor Hindi unites us,both thing divide us.Traditionally we Indians embraced diversity because we were affluent!Ancient India had no shortage caused by today's stalinist economy in ROI!No famines in our more than 6000 years of recorded history although rivers like the saraswati changed direction causing the indus valley civ to undergo migration.Make national language no one speaks much as lang,try brahmi,indus or sanskrit as they are culturally significant but not politically sensitive!!

that a person in north india who learns english gets a descent job in MNCs but a person knowing english can become a sweeper in chennai. knowing english is not suffice proper usage is also important dear.

dear vikasarun, first of all you should learn how to use proper words on a forum, hindi is not a barbaric language. second , its not come from foreign land like you have mentioned.no one can claim he or she is the native of his own place. everyone has migrated from somewhere at some point of time. most of the north indians think south indians have migrated from Africa like you think north indians have migrated from foreign land. we north indians dont dislike any language yes its true we make a
