I love the colour of Milnes's voice, also in these not perfect performances. But i still cant understand why he pronounces so badly... his vowel sounds r awful...

This performance is from 1989, so he was PAST HIS PRIME (the Il Trovatore from the previous year with Marton and Pavarotti wasn't any better, unfortunately). Within a few years after this, the number of his performances at the Met dwindled until he finally stopped singing there altogether (he must have gotten the message that they didn't want him anymore).
On a more positive note, 4:50 onwards reminds me why I chose to love opera for life.
