its funny when they were promoting gay & straight alliance at our school, and put up a poster promoting it. A whole shit load of us ripped it down and tore it up. They shut down the idea.

hey this is tommy gordon, the first speaker in the video, thanks for putting this up on youtube. but i would advise you to disable comments because you start to get ones like from andman342 that are very hateful and disrispectful towards people. youtube is not a place to spread ignorant hate speech one videos that you don't agree with. but again thanks for putting this up.

Hi Tommy. I thought about disabling the comments, but I think it's healthy to know what's on people's minds - even if we disagree. Unless we know what we're up against (we being the people who work for civil and human rights) how can we fight the good fight? I may change my mind if this it gets truly nasty, but this video, which is also posted on the Progressive Network's YouTube channel, has generated some positive responses, too. So let's let it ride for now and see what happens.

A 2007 national survey of middle and high school students revealed that nearly 9 out of 10 LGBT students (86.2%) experienced harassment at school in the past year, three-fifths (60.8%) felt unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation and about a third (32.7%) skipped a day of school in the past month because of feeling unsafe.

That is why a GSA is needed. It's the harassment that has no place in the school, not the support that a GSA offers.

@kbowersk2 The GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) website. They have a whole section of research on LGBTQ youth in schools. They actually just published another school climate survey from 2009 like the one I was talking about from 2007.

Even though he gave me several detentions, Eddy Walker was the best high school prinicipal I have ever dealt with. It crazy how a little minority of students outted a principal who benefited the majority. Gay students had the same benefits as straight. There werent any clubs based on straight students. And no gay students were ever unsafe at that school. If they felt unsafe, that was just their inner anxieties and insecurities.

@CaptainSpaulding123 I find it very very insulting to the gay community that you would put "God loves all of his children" on a sign and wave it around at a PRO-gay/straight alliance rally. According to the Bible, God does NOT love gays, and writes very clearly that in Leviticus "20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them."
