APD Downtown Discipline Part 1

This is part I of a documentary on the Austin Police Department and their accountability and use of force problems. This video was produced for a University of Texas at Austin film class.

UPDATE: Since the airing of this video, Austin welcomed a new police chief, Art Acevedo, who promptly fired Officer Olsen form the police force after he was involved in an officer involved shooting that left Kevin Brown dead. A grand jury, however, declined to indict Olsen on any criminal charges. The department has since seemed to operate with greater transparency.

In july I tried to get a stalker warrant for a man who was pestering me on the internet, trying to get some family info on my daughter. Austin PD refused to allow me to file a routine complaint that would have provided a warrant on record for this man. Austin officer A. told me "just don't read email" and refused to look at the email he sent, which was an obituary of a murder victim.

In August, about three weeks after this conversation, my daughter was found dead in another state.

@alfons00p cops go out and look for trouble they try to pick on poor blacks and whites because they know that they have know $ and are scared to speak up for themselves one way of getting rid of bad cops is to fire them if they are found guilty of violating police policy or the law know second chance i believe that would help or put more of them in jail when they do break the law instead of a paid vacation when there on suspension.cops do lie and make false reports and there chiefs know they do

in tn police are giving a under the table bonus when they make there quota on arresting blacks its been going on for years and black people know about it but stand by and do nothing about it.to become a tn police officer all you need is proof of a divorce from your cousin or sister and a 3grd.education and be able to lie in court and make false reports but the most important thing is be a good standing member of the KKK that is mandatory know exceptions so come on and sign up YOU WILL BE PROUD

APD has to be the rated number 1 in violating the civil rights of the Austin civilians. They are an embarrassment to the city of Austin. These guys (Pittman) act like this is IRAN. They will do whatever it takes in order to make their arrest record look better !

so the cop that was talking to my lady came in my room and told me to put my hands behind my back and so i was asking them what did i do,and the cops started to wrestle me, to make the story short i went to jail for nothing and it's hard for me to get a good job and when i do get on a job they treat me different because of my family violent charge , just wanted to put my story out there really not enough room for my whole story, but something has to be done with these kind of cops in a,tx

Abought five years ago me and my girl friend got into an argument in our apartment here in austin,tx , well i felt that things was getting worse and tried to leave, well i called the cops so they could watch me leave,so when the cops came to our apartment i was in my room getting my belongings ready well one of the cops went to my room where i was and the other with my girl on the front porch ,and the cop with my girl told her if you dont say he hit you im taking you to jail & kid to cps.nscn...

Bottom line, sue the individual who is causing the problem, prosecute the individual who causing the problem and get rid of the chief...There is a law coming into effect where cops cannot touch you anymore or is considered an assault....All they have to worry about police is making sure that they stand clear of any harm, but if they touch from now on they will pay huge amounts of money
