@4GreenEarth2 Thanks! Well I have never seen a worm bin in a fiberglass Japanese Soaking tub before. lol It was an experiment. For now I'm just going to keep it simple. I look forward to your updates.

@emsapowell Good to hear you made it past this part. There was a moment that I thought I would give it up. But I got over it. I have a bunch of clear plastic boxes like the ones I put them in and they are newer in the garage. But I think I might run to the store and get the darker kind with a solid top on them. I'll have to look closer at yours.

@emsapowell I'll remember that on my next set up. You are right if I had put some soil in there they would still be alive. Now I feel guilty! hahahahaha Thanks for the tip.

oh, since they are going into your drip pan, try putting something that they hide in and stay moist. Then just rescue them from the drip pan.

I have a worm bin made from a rubbermaid tote. My first attempt GIANT FAIL! lol 2nd attempt is going GREAT! I do like one of your other viewers.... I mix mine up about once a week...keeps it active so the bacteria helps break down things. My worms are doing great. Also a lot of water drains to the bottom and by bringing bottom to the top I don't have to water the bin that often at all... Just the decomposing food is enough moisture. Worms are happy so it's working! Just be patient!

Oh no!! I'm so sorry to see some of your worms died. Thanks for the update Freida. I'm new to worm farming too, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. So far so good, but we will see as time goes on. I'm hoping to do an update on my small worm bin soon. Good luck with plan B, and I hope it'll work out for you the second time!

Drill some holes in the side of your totes, for air circulation. Don't give up, it took me three years to get it to work for me. Make sure rain doesn't get through those top cracks of your totes. My method of worm farming is a combination of MANY YOUTUBERS. I thank them so much. I am with you...on a tight budget. This should work for you too.

@dkulikowski Thank you for the encouragement! I read that they don't like the feel of plastic but I guess I have seen enough happy worms on YouTube that that statement is wrong. I'll be changing my setup to copy the masters of worm farming. You all! lol Thanks you and my other worm farming friends and the guys that invented YouTube!

Mix the bin up, bring the bottom to the top.BShare the scrap bucket with your compost pile. I do mix up my worm bin bringing the top to the bottom, bringing air into the bin. Replace your cardboard on top, making sure you cover the entire surface with cardboard. This elimated the knats for me. Stop feeding them for awhile. They will multiple...give it 3 weeks or so. Check on them weekly, bringing the top to the bottom.Instead of using the green tarp, use a sheet of cardboard. Tote idea is better

@dkulikowski Thanks for the tips. I just went out and put a layer of cardboard on top. They seem to be happy when I don't disturb them but I know where they are now it doesn't have holes in it yet. So tonight I'm going to watch all the videos again and look for the best set up I can find. Then I'll probably hit up home depot for some more permanent bins.

That is a tough one.Not sure how many crawled out?Worms can even go through weed barrier.Sneeky little boogers! If need be you may need to lean the tub towards you somehow and concentrate on making it stable.Easier than bending straight over, but will look weird. In your case it was good you checked on them.Try leaving a side undisturbed and feed horse manure directly on top. Before i do a worm check i feed mine leftover grits. Then check the bedding right under it.I try not to disturb the whole bin.

@garbageguru1 They are sneaky. Curiosity killed the worms! lol I'm pretty sure the tub is out. My old body doesn't like the struggle! lol I think something more moveable. I kinda wish I took up knitting. lol They did like the horse manure. Now I have the bedding and the food all mixed together. Going to get smaller plastic boxes. These are so old and will crack apart if handled much. I also think I need to look for a darker place since the sun hits them morning and afternoon now. Thanks again.
