As an agency who collaborates by providing a supplemental financial literacy and life skills trainings to other nonprofit agencies’ clients, we have discovered that there are various levels of collaboration success. Today, 8/15/2009, was the most successful yet. We delivered services to the Broward Wealth Building Coalition’s IDA participants. The program is brilliant. The IDA Program or Individual Development Account Program targets low income working individuals and families. The program is Federal Government program. The eligible participants attend educational classes, depending on their goal choice of home ownership, starting or expanding a small business, or education. With the assistance of the Urban League, the participants open a savings account with a participating bank. They create a plan to successfully save up to $2,000. This savings will be matched by the Federal Government and another source {usually the participating bank} for a total match of $4,000. OK, who is doing their math? At the end of the program the participants will have $6,000 in savings. The education they receive will guide them to using the savings wisely. How cool is that? You can learn more by going to the Urban League of Broward’s website or click here see the application. The agencies responsible for today’s great success: America Debt Counseling, Urban League of Broward, and All Purpose Lifeskills. Explore their website to learn more! As a team, the IDA participants took part in the Credit Card Forum (Module 6), getting the knowledge they need to succeed. This group of participants were truly engaged and interested. They were willing to share the knowledge they have, which increased the success of the forum. The questions they asked were thoughtful and really clarified information regarding credit cards. With the support, their courage, and their determination they will be successful pursuing their dreams! The video montage of All Purpose Lifeskills Credit Forum (Module 6) was created by Alex- age 12: A youth engaged in bringing Positive Change to his community!
