Still like so many others, I am and always will be partial to Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman playing the Phantom and Christine....the part was written for her and well, Michael's emotion and performance remain untouchable.

Wow! Finally a Raoul who isn't like a child! He actually asks questions like:
"Why?" (5:20) and when he does, Mme Giry actually gives a reason! *le gasp!* They don't really do that with the new one. With Patrick Wilson, he's just like: "Okay, sure. I'll do what you say, but I have no idea why!" and Mme Giry doesn't bother to explain herself either, so the viewer is totally confused if they don't have any background knowledge on the Phantom.

@sycamusic150 Which makes it kinda ironic that they cast Butler, as Erik isn't supposed to have a deep voice.

@BelovedCaptain James Owen Jones is a very good Phantom. Saw him a couple of times in London 3 months ago and he blew my mind. Makes for a very menacing Phantom.

@BelovedCaptain I saw the Phantom last night in London and although Michael Crawford is the best and the original. The person playing phantom did an extremely good job of himself :D

Wow, nice way to stay calm people at the end!

I love both Gerard and Michael's versions of this beautiful song! They both have amazing, sexy voices
Crawford is the better. As the descendant of 2 CCM Chorale Conducting Doctorates, I can tell you that Butler's voice is flat out terrible for singing. The only thing he has on Crawford is that his speaking voice is deeper and more intimidating

@sycamusic150 I guess he's okay for the more maniacal, insane aspect of the character, but honestly. If I were Christine, that voice would not seduce me. It would flat out annoy me! Or freak me out. XDD

Definitely, BelovedCaptain, the passion and majesty is all Michael Crawford, the complete embodiment of the Phantom. All others pale in comparison.

@thephantom1946 I wholeheartedly agree with you. :) But the person I saw play Phantom on Broadway some years back did a very good job himself. :)
