Nice chunk of writing done today :D Let's hope I can keep this up. Apparently I've found the right writing music now. Huzzah!
"Where exactly do you plan to go?" Alswytha asked the small female. Elaina did not answer. She was concentrating on what they had discussed, what they had planned, and Cole hoped she kept that up. Alswytha might very well be trying to distract her in order to get the upper hand. "We will follow you, Elaina, and we will find you. Theodore will not spare your life a second time, not if you go through with this."
Elaina had tensed even further, and when Cole sucked in a sharp breath, it was not an act; the point of the blade caught at already tender skin, and he felt another thin trickle of blood.
"Alswytha, please." Cole hated the fear he heard in his mother's voice, and more than anything he wanted to tell her there was nothing to worry about. He would be back, and he would be safe. She had nothing to fear. Emily Stanton was a mother, though, and it was in her very nature to worry and to protect that which she had brought into the world. Regardless of his age or experience, Cole was still her son, and that would never change, just like her desire to shield and defend him.
"If you chase us," Elaina said, and behind her Cole could hear the soft sounds of horses moving, "I'll hurt him. I will. I hurt him once before, I'll do it again."
There was nothing for anyone to say to that, it seemed, and they simply continued to pursue, slow and steady.
