12.30.2011 - Funeral of Firefighter James M Rice of Peabody, Massachusetts [video by Joseph Silva]

Two days before Christmas 2011 Peabody, Massachusetts Firefighter Jim Rice, a 42 year young husband and father of three, died heroically while fighting a fire in an apartment building. His December 30, 2011 funeral was attended by thousands of residents and firefighters from near and far. I met a firefighter who traveled from Calgary, Alberta, Canada*.

The Massed Band of over 200 pipers and drummers from all over New England played "Scotland the Brave" while Captain Jay Dowling carried Mr. Rice's helmet in the very emotional send off to a hero.
