Yeah, if you ever walk that stretch of mainline you will see the insane amounts of rail shelling, especially in the curves. I used to live right beside that mainline off of Hipp road and the shelling was horrible there.

I was on this train. It was not caused by rain.

Do you remember the old Alco S switchers on the P&N coming up this line? Used to see them in the early '60s.
P&N line used to be right beside the highway right in there.
Tracks were moved in late '60s?
Also, remember the old Seaboard station near the Catawba river bridge in Mt. Holly?
Used to see Railway Express Agency trucks parked there loading freight. Many years have passed...
Was told P&N station is still standing and CSX put signals on the old Seaboard at interchange.

Hi - The Alco's were before my time - i was born in 72 - tracks are still there to RiverBend Coal plant and used daily. The RR station is still there - It is now a buisness center -yes signals are there and fairly new.

I know this are very well, and I cannot believe this doesn't happen every week on the CSX. I'm sure you remember a few years back when a mainline grain train derailed in Iron Station, coming within feet of a row of houses. Cause of the crash was decrepid mainline rail. Yay for CSX huh?

I have pictures of that de-railment Iron Station. The rail snapped as temperatures dipped into low teens or single digits and it snowed. There have beem many de-railments in that curve over the years in Iron Station across from the Baptist Church
