Its definitely the way I said it mate, im a huge fan of these guys, ive used this tuning to learn several of their songs by ear, plus you can read an interview with lead guitarist andrew elstner online where it says they use this tuning, along with the z bomb tuning mentioned earlier.

But that still makes no sense, that would give them a weird harmonized sound, which they don't have, at thicker strings or different pick ups or amps and amp settings is usually how you get a bigger thicker sound, plus their chords and scales would be jacked as shit and would have to be completely overly worked out to figure them out, I'm not a fan of these guys and don't know them personally, but it makes no sense, if they played on seven strings, and tuned the top two to A, then maybe.

Nope, no strings missed :P The second A string is an octave lower than the other one, which is why torches riffs are so fat sounding.

Actually, the guys from torche only have the z string for songs that need it, usually they're tuned to AADGBE :)
