ARLINGTON — The team of Navy SEALs killed in Afghanistan this weekend includes an elite fighter from North Texas. Matt Mills was 35.
Michael Mills learned the devastating news Saturday morning when uniformed officers knocked on his parents' Bastrop door and told him about his brother.
"I didn't believe it," he said. "It was pretty evident that it was serious when they showed up."
The father of three was on a helicopter shot down by enemy forces Friday night.
"Matt was a proud American. He served his country with pride," said his cousin, J.B. Abbott. "He loved his brothers that he fought with."
"He was very humble and never boasted what he did, but he was good at it," said Mills' sister, Ashley. "He loved what he did. And he loved his teammates and brothers."
Mills looked up to his grandfather because the veteran enlisted with the
Marines after the attack on Pearl Harbor — a decision that motivated Mills to chase his goals.
"He did what he wanted to do," Abbott said. "He always wanted to be a Navy SEAL. Just love him very much. I'm proud of him."
The Texas native got married just a few months ago. He and his wife, Keri have a 1-year-old son in Virginia.
Mills also leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter and an 18-year-old son from a previous marriage in Oklahoma.
Mills was planning to come home in October to attend his sister's wedding in Dallas, but he wasn't planning on retiring any time soon.
He wanted to serve six more years with the Navy.
Mills enlisted in the Navy nearly 14 years ago, serving first on the USS Kinkaid, but he accomplished his dream 10 years ago when he became a member of the Navy SEALs.
The chief petty officer has served in at least one mission in Iraq and Afghanistan every year for the past 10 years. He never talked about his secret missions, but he was extremely proud.
Mills graduated from James Martin High School in Arlington.
He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Family and friends are also planning to hold private memorials in Oklahoma, Virginia and Central Texas.

Pakistan TV Report Contradicts US Claim of Bin Laden's Death
Paul Craig Roberts

August 8, 2011
In my recent article, "Creating Evidence Where There Is None," about the alleged killing of Osama bin Laden by a commando team of US Seals in Abbottabad, Pakistan, I provided a link to a Pakistani National TV interview with Muhammad Bashir, who lives next door to the alleged "compound" of Osama bin Laden. I described the story that Bashir gave of the "attack" and its enormous difference from the one told by the US government. In Bashair's account, every member of the landing party and anyone brought from the house died when the helicopter exploded on lift-off. I wrote that a qualified person could easily provide a translation of the interview, but that no American print or TV news organization had investigated Bashir's account.
An attorney with a British Master of Laws degree in international law and diplomacy, who was born in Pakistan, provided the translation below. He writes: "I have no problem with being identified as the translator, but would prefer to remain anonymous."
The translator provides these definitions and clarifications:
"Gulley" is generally referred (in Urdu) to a sidewalk or pavement. Also for the space between two houses.
"kanal" is a traditional unit of land area, so that one kanal equals exactly 605 square yards or 1/8 Acre; this is equivalent to about 505.857 square meters.
Muhammad Bashir refers to himself as "We". This is common respectable language for the self; to use the plural term instead of singular. The English language equivalent would be the "Royal, We".
Urdu is the national language and lingua franca of Pakistan.

The bin laden photos were never released because they show he was shot from behind and the bullets are exiting the frontal nasal and right eye socket. His back was turned to them when he was murdered

@jkjed1 Cool. Seems we are on the same team. Keep spreading the word. Even though it was almost ten years ago 911 should be at the forefront of every discussion among Americans since it is the excuse for a hideous failed and continuing foreign policy that has spawned massive hate for all of America drained the coffers. To say nothing of the carnage at the hands of rogue govt and military. Allies we are if we oppose this mayhem. Regards, izzy

@jkjed1 ...with the CORRECT info or we will continue to spin our wheels with all of this bs. The '911 was an inside job' rant is almost as pathetic as the 'Muslims did it' MSM rant if we dont know WHO to go after no? It takes more than watching a docu to understand how many layers there are to this onion. The confusion within the truth and anti war movements is a testament to alternative media's ability to obstruct real progress. Bottom line: All roads lead to Rome. No effort on your page?
