Xiamen Traffic

A mild example of the traffic in Xiamen - I need to do this again on a busier day. Most cars drive in the middle of any lane available...buses sometimes drive on the opposite sides of the streets...cars never stop for pedestrians but just swerve around them...you get used to it. Though one of the best moments was walking across the street with my friend Derek..
Derek: It's not so bad once you get used to it. I'm not afraid of cars anymore!
Me: OH MY GOD DEREK MOVE
(bus comes straight at us as we cross the street, having looked in the direction of oncoming traffic but a bus was coming straight down our lane and not slowing down)
Derek: Buses, on the other hand...

Compared to other cities, Xiamen is much better with regard to traffic condition and quality. At least the "no honks" policy is well followed by drivers in Xiamen island. I've been there. The eerily quite traffic may make you forget you are in China.
