the problem with Daoist philosophy, is that because it preaches humility, part of being humble is not calling something "ridiculous" or "stupid." Because most daoist philosophers are too nice to be critical of people, all kinds of ridiculous things have saturated Daoist thought, even making room for ridiculous claims based on superstition, and not on fact. The idea of immortality, is not unique to Daoism.
In fact the central tenet of Christianity, is the "good news" that God's love can even conquer death, on the condition that you follow the Christian Church of course, which implies one of two things;
1) The Church ADDED corrupt stuff to Jesus' teachings.
2) It may have been Jesus' intention, to start a new church in the first place, problem is, it was Paul, not Jesus, who spread the religion.
@stardingo747 Well said. It's also worth noting that Paul "made up" Jesus. He never met him. Jesus was a local myth/legend like any culture has. (think Davy Crockett, Paul Bunyan, the Alamo in the US) Paul wrote a full 70 years after Jesus was said to exist. Except the guy Paul writes about is purely made up - that guy never existed. But Paul understood a good story well told, and how to make money.
No, Jesus was a historical figure; we know because, well, ashkenazi Jews hate his guts. He is even maligned in the Talmud; overhwelmingly, what few ashkenazi Jews can claim a large percentage of Hebrew ancestry, said Hebrew ancestry is Levite, not from the tribe of Judah, and when the diaspora began during the Talmudic period, the two surviving tribes of the 12 did not part on the best of terms.
