It doesn't really. It only counts as 1 hit for any splash attack (smash, wm, normal hit). It only gives proficiency for 1 hit too.

she hits 290 no crit on the splashed smashed monsters but her wm does 417 non crit on every monster o.e but its true this is a smash video.

WM obviously is weaker than smash. Smash=500% damage rank 1. 250% Damage Rank 1. I'm pretty sure I would wanna smash and hit a bunch of mobs and like 1/3-2/3 life gone. Besides, this video is about smash if you read the title.
