Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich of Russia (Дмитрий Павлович Романов) (18 September 1891 5 March 1942) was a Russian imperial dynast, one of the few Romanovs to escape murder by the Bolsheviks after the Russian Revolution. He is known for being involved in the murder of the mystic peasant faith healer Grigori Rasputin, who he felt held undue sway over Tsar Nicholas II.

  • What's the difference between a Grand Duke and an average, every day, run-of the-mill Duke?

  • @happymax1 Grand duke is of a protocolary rank below a king but higher than a sovereign duke. Grand duke is also the usual and established translation of grand prince in languages which do not differentiate between princes who are children of a monarch (Prinz) and ruling princes (Fürst).

  • where can I find it? is it on YT?

  • Not this episode. But I will try to upload it. You will be the first to know when it will be online.

  • No, sorry. But I saw a picture of him in this place in a documentary "Mémoires d'Exil" in the episode "Les héritiers du souvenir".

  • In Russian Grand Duke means "Vielikij Kniazj" Grand Prince or Great Prince. In medieval Russia the largest cities such as Moscow, Kiev, and others were ruled by Grand Dukes. Under the Romanov dynasty, the sons and daughters of all monarchs, carried this title. Tsar Alexander II limited only the title to those who were sons, daughters and grandsons or granddaughters of the ruling Emperor. In our time their is not a single member of the Romanov family that can legally claim for this title.

  • oh thanks :) :) :)

  • any picture of him in Schatzalp- Davos???
